Hogan Brown Fly Fishing

Reports 30 March

Lower Yuba River - Fishing has been fair to good when the hatches are coming off and the fish are eating it is good. When they are not it is a bit tougher. Patience and persistence pays off when it comes to the Lower Yuba lately. PMD hatches are going strong, March Browns are starting (a bit late), various caddis are out and the little yellow sallies and goldens are not far off. There has been dry fly opportunities when the weather and hatches cooperate and plenty of nymphing.

Oliver and me with a GREAT Yuba rainbow.

Lower Sacramento River Trout - Spent a few days filming for a new loon video the last few days and spent some time on the Lower Sac and it is fishing very well for trout. Again though when the PMDs are out it is very good and when they are not it is good but you have to work for them a bit harder. Flows are very low so lots of back rowing and opportunities to work over runs. Fishing should stay pretty darn good on the Sac through the next month or two.

Lower Feather River Steelhead - Spring steelhead is off to a slower then normal start but there are some fresh fish around with the recent rains. Swinging flies has been getting a few grabs a day and I am sure the nymph anglers are getting a few to. Swing flies for spring steelhead is the way I prefer to fish the feather this time of year but there are opportunities to nymph as well.
